Education

Eastern Michigan University Studying K-8 General Ed, minors in Science, Language Arts, and Music. I'm in my junior year.

Experience

Tutored in high school, I've done a lot of pre-student teaching in different classrooms. I've worked with gen ed students in preschool through 4th grade, special ed students PreK-4th grade, and music students K-5. I've made my own lesson plans, and I know sometimes you have to adjust as you go. Different kids learn different ways. I like to know a child's interests before tutoring so I can fit lesson plans to them. Tutoring is great experience for me since I want to be a teacher. I have taken classes that teach me to incorporate movement and the arts into general education subjects, as well as a class on special education. I babysit a lot of kids and try to do educational activities.

Hobbies

I love being outside and making learning fun. I believe play time is just as important as learning time, and when you can put the two together, the student will learn so much more than having to sit and listen and write. I strongly believe that children should enjoy learning, and be taught in a way that helps them learn. Unfortunately in a classroom full of students who each have their own learning style, the teacher has to focus on getting the information to everybody, rather than focusing on each student. As a tutor, I can discover your child 's unique learning style, and help them understand subjects in a way that is less frustrating, and more fun. I will do fun, hands-on activities with your child that help them understand things better. I love to teach general education subjects using activities that integrate movement, music, and art. When your child is moving, it helps the blood flow in their brains, and makes them more focused and better learners in the long run. When there s music or art involved, there are more senses that can be used to retain the information. It s not just seeing or hearing words. It s reading, listening, touching different textures, building things, and moving in ways that work with the subject. For example, instead of spelling flash cards, I would have your child form the letters with their body. I would love to work for your family. Please let me know if you're interested in talking more about what I can do for your children. Thanks! :)
