Education
I'm a Junior Secondary Education Major at Eastern Michigan University. I currently have a 3.75 GPA. My certification will be in English Language, Literature, and Writing. My minor certification will be in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Experience
Last year, I spent a semester working with two Arabic ESL students in EMU's ESL program. I spent time with them working on pronunciation, grammar, and many other aspects of language. I completed my practicum at Central Academy in Ann Arbor where I spent time in a sheltered English ESL classroom. I received a 4 on the AP Lit and Comp exam in High School. I received a 33 on the English portion of the ACT and an 11/12 on the writing portion of it. My composite ACT score was 30. I want to be a tutor because I think that the public school system is particularly unforgiving to students that don't fit the mold that their curricula are designed for. Extracurricular one-on-one help is really important for these students in order for them to succeed in school (and therefore life!) I'm about 80% of the way finished with my degree and am only a few years away from teaching in a real classroom. I'm well-read and knowledgeable about what goes on in a high school English classroom. I'm also confident in helping intermediate to high level ESL learners in their English-speaking endeavors.
